FAQ
Q: My video output (HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI…) does not work when connected to my device.
Answer:
– Make sure you meet the HW requirements of the docking station
– Use the original accessories that came with the docking station
– Update your devices’ drivers to the latest version
If the video output still does not work, contact technical support.
Q: I have 2 external monitors with built-in speakers. And when connected to the docking station, they both output the same sound. Is it possible to set that the monitor plays the sound?
Answer. Right now the only option is to disable it directly in the monitor settings.
Q: When I close the lid of my laptop, the laptop shuts down. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
Answer:
– Windows has a special setting that controls what happens to the laptop when the lid is closed. And this setting needs to be changed. Right-click on the Start button and select Power Options. In the options on the right, select More Power Settings. A new window will open and in the menu on the left, select Close Settings lid and choose No action.
– On macOS, 4 conditions must be met to prevent the MacBook from shutting down. The MacBook must be connected to power, the external keyboard, mouse and monitor must be connected. And then the cover of the MacBook can be closed and only the external monitor can be used.
Q: I can’t set the monitor to 4K 60Hz resolution.
Answer: First check if both the dock/graphic adapter and the monitor can handle this resolution. Also check that:
– If connected via HDMI, your HDMI cable supports 4K 60Hz. Only HDMI cables version 2.0 and later support this. Some monitors/TVs also have an item in the settings that must be enabled.
– When connected via DisplayPort, your cable supports 4K60Hz. Only DP cables version 1.2 and later support this. Also make sure DP 1.2 is selected in the monitor settings. Consult your monitor’s manual if you don’t know where to look for this setting.
Q: Can a monitor connected via a docking station use nVidia/AMD/Intel graphics technologies? For example, G-sync or FreeSync.
Answer : The docking station cannot use nVidia/AMD/Intel graphics technologies.
Q : Is it possible to use the dock/graphics adapter to set the frame rate to 120 Hz (144 Hz, etc.)?
A : This is possible. The docking station has this option, the condition is that you use the DisplayPort on the docking station.
Q : Is it possible to connect a monitor with a touch screen?
A : This is possible, but i-tec Technologies cannot provide technical support in this case as this is a technology of the monitor manufacturer.
Q: The image on the connected monitor flickers.
A: 1. Try another higher quality HDMI/DisplayPort cable, this can often solve your problem. Also restart your laptop/computer and the docking station.
2. Update the drivers for your graphics card directly on the graphics card manufacturer’s website or laptop manufacturer’s website.
Q : Can I use an adapter to convert the signal from DVI/HDMI to DisplayPort?
A : You can convert the signal from HDMI to DisplayPort, but only if you use an active (powered) adapter.
Therefore, under no circumstances can you use a passive (non-powered) cable/adapter. Passive cables/adapters can only convert DisplayPort signals to HDMI.
Q: The USB/Thunderbolt cable is too short for my needs. Can I use a longer cable from another manufacturer?
A : Yes, it is possible to use other longer cables. However, we are not responsible for problems caused by using third-party cables.
QUESTION: What is the function of the power button if I can’t use it to turn the laptop on/off?
A : The power button is used to turn the docking station on/off.
Q : I have speakers/headphones plugged into the dock’s audio jack, but they don’t play sound.
Answer: Right-click on the Start button and select Settings. Select System here and from the menu on the left, select Sound and change Output Devices here.
Question: I am using a docking station in my office/business and when I plug the Ethernet cable into the docking station, it is not possible to connect to the Internet/local networks. But when I plug this cable into the LAN connector of my laptop, everything works properly.
Answer : In some cases, companies restrict Internet/local network connections to network elements with a known MAC address (each LAN connector has its own MAC address).
You can get around this by manually changing the MAC address of the LAN connector in the docking station, or you can use our i-tec Docker Pro software (for Windows) to clone the MAC address from your laptop to the docking station. i-tec Docker Pro is free and can be downloaded from our website.

Q: I have a laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C port, yet the laptop still does not charge.
Answer: According to the Thunderbolt 3/USB-C specifications, charging the laptop is only optional. Not all laptops allow this option, especially laptops with power supplies over 100W. In addition, some manufacturers restrict/block charging via docks/adapters not made by that manufacturer. If you are unsure if your USB-C port meets these requirements, please contact the device manufacturer or our technical support: support@itecproduct.com.
Q: My external monitor does not wake up when I take my laptop out of sleep mode.
Answer: Try changing the monitor input setting from AUTO to fixed monitor input.
If the automatic search for an active port does not find an input after a long time, the monitor may go to sleep so that it no longer responds to the dock port signal.
In case of problems after waking up, disable sleep or hibernate mode on some devices.
Q: Does this dock/graphics adapter support audio signal transmission via HDMI or DP?
Answer: Yes, if your monitor (projector) has integrated speakers, audio signal transfer via HDMI or DP cable is possible. However, you must change the default audio playback device in your operating system settings.
Q: I connected a standard analog microphone to the dock’s combined audio port, but the microphone doesn’t work. Why is that?
Answer: The combined (TRRS) audio port is not compatible with standard analog microphones.
Q: What are the primary graphics card requirements for use with the graphics chipsets in i-tec graphics adapters and docking stations?
A: The graphics chipsets in i-tec products are secondary (additional) graphics cards in the PC.
A primary graphics card must be installed to work.
Note for Windows 10 and later: Intel, NVidia, ATI/AMD, VIA. It cannot work with SiS or Matrox graphics cards.
Q: Can I make my product work permanently (24/7)?
A: Theoretically yes, but continuous use is not good for the durability and reliability of the product. Like any device that contains active on-chip components equipped with software or firmware tools, the docking station should be rebooted occasionally, especially in areas where connected devices alternate (usually hot-desking and hot-plugging) to avoid potential problems and keep operation running smoothly. The ideal or recommended usage scenario is to restart or shut down the product at least three times a week. Docking stations not equipped with an ON/OFF button can be turned off by disconnecting the power supply.
Q: On my MacBook 13″/15″ 2016 and later, my wifi or Bluetooth no longer works or USB 3.0 devices connected to the dock are disconnected. What is the problem?
Answer: This problem is caused by interference in the 2.4 GHz band. A possible solution is to connect the dock to the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on the Mac on the left closest to you or use the ports on the right. These ports are farthest from the WiFi antenna. Another solution is to use the 5GHz band and place the dock as far away from your Mac’s display as possible. For more information, see here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201163
Q: I have your device and the video transfer is not working.
Answer: Your device must meet the system requirements, especially any support for DP Alt. mode on the USB-C port. If you are unsure whether DP Alt. Please contact the device manufacturer or our technical support at:support@itecproduct.com.
Q: Why does only mirroring or only one video output work on my MacBook?
A: Unfortunately macOS does not support MST technology and can only mirror both outputs, or only one output can work.
Q: The image through the docking station flickers.
A: If you are experiencing this phenomenon, it is possible that your display’s refresh rate is set incorrectly. For example, if your refresh rate is set to 59 Hz, set it to 60 Hz and vice versa.
Q: Is it possible to charge HP laptops with Thunderbolt 3 technology with this docking station?
A: Hewlett-Packard has implemented proprietary technology in some of its notebook models that allows charging only when using original HP docks. Please check your laptop’s compatibility with your dealer or contact HP technical support.
Q: Do I need to install drivers before I can use the docking station?
A: No, installation is only required on Windows 7, Android and macOS.
However, we always recommend installing the latest version of drivers from this site: Driver
Q: Can I connect another USB-C DP Alt to the dock’s USB-C port? Can I connect a video adapter to the USB-C port?
A: No, the docking station and USB-C or Thunderbolt port must be modified for this purpose.
We always mention this in the specifications.
Q: The LAN connection does not work on my Android.
Answer: Ethernet support must be supported directly by the tablet manufacturer. You can easily check for support in the settings – “Network Connections” – “Other Networks” – and the item “Ethernet” should be there.
Q: Everything works for me, but it only shows a speed of 10 Mbps, where is the problem?
Answer: Check all cabling between the PC/NB and the active element and tighten the RJ-45 connectors. It also helps to replace the Ethernet cable between the adapter and the active network element (hub, switch, router) with a certified one. Setting a specific value (instead of Auto Negotiation) in the network adapter properties, the Speed & Duplex item may also be a solution.
Q: Where can I download DisplayLink drivers for ChromeOS?
A: There is no need to download or install drivers for ChromeOS. They have been included with ChromeOS since R51. Just plug in the dock.
Q: I am using ChromeOS and the image on my external monitor is not smooth/blurry.
Answer: In this case, the problem lies with a CPU with too little power. In most cases, ChromeOS laptops use less powerful processors and the DisplayLink software uses the CPU for calculations only.
Q: I have a ChromeOS laptop with two external 4K monitors, is there a way to set fullHD resolution on both monitors?
A: Unfortunately, you can currently only set the resolution for one monitor in ChromeOS. The second monitor will be set to the maximum possible (native) resolution.
Q: The dock should be able to handle up to 5K/60Hz, but I can only set 4K/30Hz on the monitor. What is the problem?
Answer: To set 5K/60Hz resolution, the main graphics card (on most laptops this is Intel) must support DisplayLink 1.4 with DSC. Make sure your laptop supports this.
Q: Can I use this dock under Linux?
A: Yes, this dock can be used under Linux. DisplayPorts and HDMI are built on USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode – your distribution/device must support this technology for this output to work on Linux.
The necessary drivers should already be integrated into all current distributions.
