With Thunderbolt 5 and Windows laptops, you can connect up to four monitors (the laptop lid must be closed). With Apple laptops running macOS, a maximum of two external monitors is supported.

** If your laptop or tablet supports the modern USB-C Power Delivery PD 3.1 charging protocol, the docking station provides up to 140 W charging power (with PD 3.0, the charging power is limited to 100 W).

FAQ

Question: Video output (HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, etc.) does not work after connecting to my device.

Answer:

· Check that you meet the docking station’s hardware requirements

· Use the original accessories supplied with the docking station

· Update your device drivers to the latest version

If your video output still does not work, please contact technical support.

Question: When I close the laptop lid, the laptop turns off. Is there any way to prevent this?

Answer:

· Windows has a special setting that controls what happens to the laptop when the lid is closed. This setting needs to be changed. Right-click on the Start button and select Power Options. From the options on the right, select Additional power settings. A new window will open. From the menu on the left, select Lid close settings and select Do nothing.

· On macOS, four conditions must be met to prevent the MacBook from shutting down. The MacBook must be connected to a power source, and an external keyboard, mouse, and monitor must be connected. Then you can close the MacBook lid and work only with the external monitor.

Question: I cannot set the resolution to 4K/60Hz, 8K60Hz, etc. on my monitor.

Answer: First, please make sure that both the docking station/graphics adapter and the monitor support this resolution. Also make sure that:

· If connecting via HDMI, your HDMI cable supports 4K 60Hz. Only HDMI cables version 2.0 and later support this. Also, some monitors/TVs may have a setting that needs to be enabled.

· If connecting via DisplayPort, your cable supports 4K60 Hz. Only DP cables version 1.2 and newer support this. Also make sure that DP 1.2 is selected in your monitor settings. Refer to your monitor manual if you do not know where to find this setting.

Question: Can a monitor connected via a docking station use graphics technologies from nVidia/AMD/Intel? E.g. G-sync or FreeSync.

Answer: For docking stations with this option, we always include it in the specifications.

It mostly depends on whether the guest device, such as a laptop, can offer this option via Thunderbolt, USB-C, or USB4 port.

Question: Is it possible to set the frame rate to 120 Hz (144 Hz, etc.) with a docking station/graphics adapter?

Answer: This is possible. The docking station has this option, provided that Thunderbolt or HDMI is used on the docking station.

Question: Is it possible to connect a monitor with a touch screen?

Answer: This is possible, but i-tec Technologies cannot provide technical support in this case, as this is a technology provided by the monitor manufacturers.

Question: The image on the connected monitor is flickering.

Answer: 1. Please try a different, higher quality HDMI/DisplayPort cable, as this can often solve the problem. Next, restart your laptop/computer and the docking station.

2. Please update your graphics card drivers directly from the graphics card manufacturer’s website or from the laptop manufacturer’s website.

Question: Can I use an adapter to convert the signal from DVI/HDMI to DisplayPort?

Answer: Converting the signal from HDMI to DisplayPort is possible, but only when using an active (powered) adapter.

Therefore, a passive (unpowered) cable/adapter cannot be used under any circumstances. Passive cables/adapters can only convert the DisplayPort signal to HDMI.

Question: The USB/Thunderbolt cable is too short for my needs. Can I use a longer cable from another manufacturer?

Answer: Yes, other longer cables can be used. However, we are not responsible for any problems caused by the use of third-party cables.

Question: What is the function of the power button if it cannot be used to turn the laptop on/off?

Answer: The power button is used to turn the docking station on/off.

Question: I have speakers/headphones connected to the audio connector on the docking station, but no sound is coming out.

Answer: Right-click on the Start button and select Settings. Select System and then select Sound from the menu on the left and change the Output device.

Question: I use a docking station in my office/company, and when I connect the Ethernet cable to the docking station, I cannot connect to the Internet/local network. But when I connect this cable to the LAN connector on my laptop, everything works fine.

Answer: In some cases, companies restrict Internet/local network connections to network devices with a known MAC address (each LAN connector has its own MAC address).

This can be circumvented by either manually changing the MAC address of the LAN connector in the docking station or by using our i-tec Docker Pro software (for Windows), which clones the MAC address from your laptop to the docking station. i-tec Docker Pro is free and can be downloaded from our website.

Question: I have a laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C port, but the laptop is not charging.

Answer: According to the Thunderbolt 3/USB-C specifications, laptop power supply is optional. Not all laptops offer this option, especially laptops with a power supply over 100W. Also, some manufacturers restrict/block charging from docking stations/adapters that are not manufactured by the manufacturer. If you are unsure whether your USB-C port meets the above requirements, please contact either the device manufacturer or our technical support: support@itecproduct.com.

Question: When I wake my laptop from sleep mode, my external monitor does not wake up.

Answer: Try changing the monitor input setting from AUTO to a fixed monitor input.

If the automatic search for an active port does not find any input after a long time, the monitor may go into sleep mode and no longer respond to signals from the docking station port.

If you experience any problems after waking up, you may need to disable sleep or hibernation mode on some devices.

Question: Does this docking station/graphics adapter support audio signal transmission via HDMI or DP?

Answer: Yes, if your monitor (projector) has built-in speakers, audio signal transmission via HDMI or DP cable is possible. However, you must change the default audio playback device in your OS settings.

Question: I connected a standard analog microphone to the docking station’s combined audio port, but the microphone does not work. Why?

Answer: The combined (TRRS) audio port is not compatible with standard analog microphones.

Question: What are the requirements for primary graphics cards for use with graphics chipsets in i-tec graphics adapters and docking stations?

Answer: The graphics chipsets in i-tec products are secondary (additional) graphics cards in the PC.

They require a primary graphics card to be installed in order to function.

Note for Windows 10 and later: In these operating systems, the graphics driver only works with primary graphics cards: Intel, NVidia, ATI/AMD, VIA. It does not work with SiS or Matrox graphics cards.

Question: Can I keep my product in operation continuously (24 hours a day, 7 days a week)?

Answer: Theoretically, yes, but continuous operation is not recommended for the durability and reliability of the product. As with any other device that contains active components on a chip equipped with software or firmware tools, the docking station should be restarted from time to time, especially in locations where connected devices are switched (typically hot-desking and hot-plugging), to prevent potential problems and ensure trouble-free operation. The ideal or recommended usage scenario would be to restart or shut down the product at least three times a week. Docking stations that are not equipped with an ON/OFF button can be turned off by disconnecting the power supply.

Question: On my MacBook 13″ / 15″ 2016 and later, WiFi or Bluetooth stops working, or USB 3.0 devices connected to the docking station disconnect. What is the problem?

Answer: This problem is caused by interference in the 2.4GHz band. A possible solution is to connect the docking station to the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on the left side of your Mac closest to you or use the ports on the right side. These ports are located furthest from the WiFi antenna. Another solution is to use the 5GHz band and place the docking station as far away from your Mac’s monitor as possible. Question: I have your device and the image transfer is not working.

Answer: Your device must meet the system requirements, in particular the support of DP Alt. mode on the USB-C port. If you are unsure whether your device supports DP Alt. Mode, please contact either the device manufacturer or our technical support: support@itecproduct.com.

Question: Why does only mirroring work on my MacBook, or only one video output?

Answer: Unfortunately, MacOS does not support MST technology and is only capable of mirroring to both outputs, or only one may work. (This does not apply to docking stations based on Displaylink technology starting with P/N: CA or U3.)

Question: The image via the docking station flickers.

Answer: If you encounter this phenomenon, it is possible that your monitor refresh rate is set incorrectly. For example, if you have set 59 Hz, please set it to 60 Hz and vice versa.

Question: Is it possible to charge HP notebooks equipped with Thunderbolt 3 technology with this docking station?

Answer: Hewlett-Packard has implemented proprietary technology in some of its notebook models that allows charging only when using original HP stations. Please check the compatibility of your notebook with your dealer or contact HP technical support.

Question: Do I need to install drivers before using the docking station?

Answer: No, installation is only required on Windows 7.

However, we always recommend installing the latest drivers from the notebook manufacturer’s website.

Question: Can I connect another USB-C DP Alt. Mode graphics adapter to the USB-C (TB) port of the docking station?

Answer: Yes, this docking station has this option.

We always mention this in the specifications.

Question: The LAN connection is not working on my Android device.

Answer: Ethernet connection support must be provided directly by the tablet manufacturer. You can easily check this in the settings – “Network connections” – “Other networks” – and there should be an item called “Ethernet”.

Question: Everything works, but the speed is only 10 Mbps. What is the problem?

Answer: Check all the cabling between the PC/NB and the active device and press the RJ-45 connectors firmly. It also helps to replace the Ethernet cable between the adapter and the active network device (hub, switch, router) with a certified one. Another solution may be to set a specific value (instead of Auto Negotiation) in the network adapter properties, under Speed & Duplex.

Question: Where can I download DisplayLink drivers for ChromeOS?

Answer: Drivers for ChromeOS do not need to be downloaded or installed. They are included in ChromeOS since version R51. Simply connect the docking station.

Question: I have a laptop with ChromeOS and two external 4K monitors. Is there any way to set both monitors to full HD resolution?

Answer: Unfortunately, at this time, ChromeOS only allows you to set the resolution for one monitor. The second monitor will be set to the maximum possible (native) resolution.

Question: The docking station should support up to 8K/60Hz, but I can only set 4K/30Hz on the monitor. What is the problem?

Answer: To set a resolution of 8K/60Hz, the main graphics card (in most laptops this is Intel) must support DisplayLink 1.4 with DSC. Please make sure your laptop supports this.

Question: Can I use this docking station on Linux?

Answer: Yes, this docking station can be used on Linux. DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB-C (Thunderbolt) are built on Thunderbolt technology with USB-C alternate mode support – for this output to work on Linux, your distribution/device must support this technology.

The necessary drivers should already be integrated in all current distributions.

Question: I have a 5Gbps optical network at home, but the internet connection via the docking station is recognized and limited to “only” 1Gbps. Is there anything I can do about this?

Answer: Make sure that your switch or router supports the transfer speeds you want to achieve.

It is also necessary to use cables of the appropriate category.

If the adapter detects the connection incorrectly, it is advisable to manually set the transfer speed to a higher value on the docking station’s network adapter.
