Thunderbolt™ 3

Thunderbolt™ 3 is the fastest port currently available on a personal computer. Thunderbolt™ 3 is a hardware interface that combines various data transfer protocols and standards, resulting in a single physical interface for multiple peripherals and accessories. Unlike previous generations, Thunderbolt™ 3 adopted the form of the USB-C connector, helping it to already become more popular than its predecessors. Although Thunderbolt™ 3 adopted the 24-pin USB-C type connector, it is capable of much more than USB-C 3.1.

Supported standards and protocols include:

▷▷ PCIe 3.0 (up to) x4

▷▷ DisplayPort 1.2

▷▷ USB 3.1 Gen 2

▷▷ Thunderbolt™ Networking at over 10Gb Ethernet speeds

▷▷ Hot Plug

User benefits of Thunderbolt™ 3 include the ability to drive two 4K monitors at 60Hz and transfer of data to external storage at up-to 40Gbps. In addition, it is theoretically possible to send up to 100W power to your laptop, as well as 15W for additional devices. Thunderbolt™ 3 is also capable of maintaining the connection of six devices in a Daisy chain, through a single port, enabling the Mac to see and read data from all connected devices.
